Internationally acknowledged expertise in sports physical activity

Central Finland is the home for the only Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences in Finland (University of Jyväskylä), LIKES Research Centre for Physical Activity and Health, the only medical specialist field of Sports and Exercise Medicine in Finland (Central Finland Health Care District), KIHU Research Institute for Olympic Sports, as well as a wide variety of third sector operators (KesLi). This expertise improves the all-round wellbeing of everyone in the region, and makes Central Finland an internationally high-class centre of sports-related knowledge.

Health-related innovations and businesses in Central Finland have the potential to make it worldwide. We try to find global solutions to improve the wellbeing of young families and the elderly, maintain work ability, and prevent the social exclusion of children and adolescents.

On top of that, the New Hospital Nova and the Hippos Complex for Sports and Wellbeing are under construction. Central Finland is renowned for its forests and lakes, and five national parks. This results in a strong mental relationship to nature. Green Wellbeing plays a major role in many of our wellbeing innovations.
